Though at first it seemed impossible, with a little practice holding a wall, I first learned to ride a competing product, the Ripstik, reasonably well (no tricks, just riding around on sidewalks, bike trails, etc). I thought that was a blast - then we found a sale on a Shred Sled and picked one up. Whoa! So much smoother, more maneuverable, and just more fun than the Ripstik. Having two wheels on each platform makes a ton of difference. My husband and I fight over the Shred Sled. It "carves" so smoothly and easily. It is more flexible, so you have to get over the initial feeling of instability that comes with the wider range of movement, but it is worth it. My kids are under 5, so they're not quite ready, but I imagine a reasonably coordinated 7 or 8 year old, on up to adults, will find this ridiculously fun. It is very solid. Should last a long time. They sent me connectors in the mail within a few days. The original plastic connector in the middle has been replaced with a hard rubber one which seems less likely to break as it did twice before with the earlier release. I'm changing my review from 2 to 4 stars with this important inprovement. Now that this problem has been solved, I feel good about saying this is a great board to buy. The only shortcoming is that the wheels are a bit soft for hard riding. Even with the weight distributed over four wheels, they wear down fairly quickly.
